What? A community-wide, broad-based effort to bring Google’s ultra-high speed Internet access to Austin. Google is seeking proposals from communities willing to serve as trial locations for a 1 gigabit-per-second, fiber-to-home Internet connection.

How you will benefit. All residents and businesses will have access to a system 100 times faster than currently available in most parts of the country. Construction costs will be covered entirely by Google. Service will be available to customers at a low rate and existing service providers will have access to the open-ended system.

How you can help. Three ways:
1.    Go to the googleaustinmn.com web site today and sign on.
2.    Encourage others on your list of contacts (email, blogs, Facebook, Twitter, etc. to do the same.
3.    Post a simple comment of support on the website or click “Nominate Austin” to fill out a more detailed form. Individuals, businesses and organizations are all encouraged to “Get Involved.” Support can be as simple as posting “I support GoogleAustinmn” to creating and posting your own YouTube video. Clicking “Share It” icons will send your information to a variety of placement sites.

What you should say. Think of ways this ultra-high speed system will improve your quality of life, your professional life and your community. Ask yourself:
1.    Why is Google good for me and Austin?
2.    Why is Austin a good choice for Google?
